Changes in indigenous attire

Changes in indigenous attire have occurred due to multiple internal and external factors. Over time, some clothing items ceased to be worn, and in certain communities, some even disappeared. One of earliest alterations was the shift in headwear: woolen hat, typical of mestizos, became popular. Another noticeable change was the loss of vibrant colors in women’s clothing.

The poncho, a significant garment for indigenous men, underwent several modifications, and it was even replaced by a wool jacket. Women’s clothing has experienced fewer alterations compared to men’s attire: a notable change includes adoption of suede sandals, use of imported raw materials, and use of woolen vests instead of shawls and shawls.
