Marriage could be planned by bride`s parents and groom or it could arise through courtship. Once the marriage was agreed upon, the groom’s parents would visit bride’s home with offerings of food called “medianos” and aguardiente. If bride’s family accepted gifts, the marriage planning began. The groom’s parents had to bring, in total, 12 medianos. Once all offerings were completed, churashca rosary was performed, led by the mayor of the parish, to consolidate the marriage. Afterwards, bride and groom legalized the union at Civil Registry, followed by the religious ceremony. The marriage concluded with ñawimayllay, in which newlyweds performed a ritual bath. Ceremony culminated after several days of feasting with food and drink.
